La Coume Gites have been designed so that it is possible
for families with disabled and non disabled members to holiday together. Care and planning of the Gites has been of prime importance
to us. There is level access to the Gites and to all essential facilities
both inside and out. LEVEL ACCESS means simply that - there
are NO stairs and NO steps or ramps throughout within the Gites’
ground floor area.
The accommodation has been designed to be homely and, to have a “farmhouse”
feel whilst incorporating the necessary equipment for disabled people
in an unobtrusive way. Two of the three Gites (Aguilar and Puivert), have a ground floor
double bedroom (twins or double bed available) and shower room, with level access showers and shower perching-stool or wheel in shower-chair.
There are grab rails in the bathrooms around the toilet and shower
areas - toilets are 480mm from floor to seat. Access equipment is available on request so please specify
your requirements on the booking form. Our third Gite, Lastours is
on the first floor and so not suitable for people with limited mobility,
but which, nonetheless, incorporates many of the accessible features
of the other Gites.
In the two ground floor Gites Aguilar and Puivert, there is reasonable access to sinks,
hob units and electric ovens for wheelchair users. Oven and
hob controls are on the front of the units.
Access to the Gites and manoeuvrability within them has been designed
around the access requirements of disabled people. All the accommodation
has generous clear width doorways and wide passages. Plugs and switches
are at wheelchair height.
The adaptations we have made are discreet. We have provided an inclusive
setting for all family members to holiday together.
We provide all bed linen and towels. We can also provide guests
with cots and high chairs for infants. These must be specified on
the booking form.
Accessible parking is close to the Gites and it is possible to park
outside the main entrance for boarding and discharging only.
In the swimming pool there is a hoist and we will give you instructions
on its use. As your safety is important to us, we ask that use of
the hoist is made with a personal assistant/carer or other person
present.
We hope to make the entire site of some 200 acres as accessible as
possible to all our visitors and welcome any suggestions you may
have in this regard. We will be including a walkway/level access
path to the swimming pool.
