Things to Do

This area is full of interesting and inviting things to see and do. There is bound to be something of interest for all the family. From the pretty restored Moulins and Pigeonniers to the magnificent scenery and powerful views. We are sure you will find a place that is just right for you to relax and from which to admire the views. Below is a small selection of the many things the area has to offer.

Carcassonne - this medieval walled city is absolutely fascinating and is well worth a visit. You can browse around the shops or visit La Cite. There is also a wide range of events organised throughout the summer months

Castelnaudary - the capital of the Lauragais area is famous for the traditional dish, cassoulet. From here you can take a boat trip on the Canal du Midi which runs through the town and down to the Mediterranean coast.

Mirepoix - this historic Bastide town was built in the twelfth century. You can relax here in one of the many bars situated around the galleried market square. The town has many restaurants and the Monday market has an interesting array of regional products and crafts. The Cathédral has the largest Nave outside Paris.

For the Children– there are many activities and places to go to around the area. You can visit the Bison Park or see paper being made in the old fashioned way. You might prefer the Space City at Toulouse, Go-karting or quad biking. The list of things to do is endless

Cathar Castles and Caves - there are an abundance of these in the area and you can choose from the Gouffé du Carbardes only 40 minutes from Domaine de La Coume or visit Queribus castle on the border with the Department of the Pyrénées-Orientales about 50 minutes drive.

Pyrénées - Domaine de La Coume makes an excellent location for winter breaks as there are a number of ski resorts within an hours drive. Mont d'Holmes, Ax-les-Thermes, Font Romeu and Andorra are the main ones and even if you do not ski there are activities such as tobogganing and snow boarding to be enjoyed.

Mediterranean Coast - this is less than an hour's drive away. You can enjoy the beach at Narbonne or take the children to one of the many Aqua Lands along the coast.

Spain - within 1.5 hours drive you can be enjoying the Spanish coastline or visiting the Dali museum at Figueres. Drive down to Narbonne and turn right. The motorway takes you into Spain

Water sports- the Ganguise and Lac Montbel are used for recreational activities such a sailing and wind surfing.

Bird Watching - For the twitchers among you, we have a plethora of birds to interest even the most ardent birdwatcher. From Golden Oriels, to Bleach White Cattle Egrets; from Bee-Eaters with their Pterodactyl, fluorescent coloured wings to Red and Black Kites, Emperor Owls, Falcons and Eagles and other species no longer indigenous to the UK. Come and help us to add to the library of species we have already identified at Domaine de La Coume.

Cycling - the area is ideal for cycling. We can arrange for you to hire bikes and offer help is finding cycle routes.

Walking - There are many delightful walks both around the 200 acres that comprise Domaine de La Coume and, in the surrounding area. The views of the valleys, hills and Pyrénées are quite spectacular and each season brings a new and breathtaking aspect of the neighbouring countryside.

House Hunting - Domaine de La Coume offers a good base from which to look for your ideal 'Place in the Sun'. We are able to offer help and advice on how to go about doing this and to put you in touch with local agents. We will also assist with the after sales aspects of the purchase and help you to find an architect and/or builder to assist with the next stage, if required. We can also offer a translation service.

Churches and Services - If yours is a religious bent, then you may wish to visit and or go to the Byzantine masses at the Monastère in the Communie de l’Agneau within walking distance of Domaine de La Coume. The masses are 99% sung and the brothers and sisters four-part evocative harmonies are wonderful to hear. The Monastère is Roman Catholic based and welcomes all faiths.

With fields brimming with poppies, tracks leading to nowhere in particular and some leading to the pool we feel that there is something here for everyone.
